You are right. We may add that we use the integrated iPhone feature which usually shuts off the screen during a phone call in order to save energy. We use this sensor to start the recording, just as if you’d pressed the record button. To make you know when to start speaking your passphrase, we initiate the vibration signal. With the iPhone at your ear you gain the perfect distance to the microphone without causing disturbing noise by stream of air directed at the microphone. You might consider that this feature from Apple does only work in the right lighting conditions and only if quite close to your head. This means, if the VOICESAFE does not make your iPhone vibrate although you hold it at your ear: please press the record button!
For a computer login, there are simple passwords and secure passwords. The same is the case with passphrases for your VOICESAFE. Don’t help the „Beagle Boy“ (the iPhone thief) by saying „blah-blah-blah“. You have two seconds’ time for your recording. This is more than you might think. Use a complex sentence (ideally consisting of about five words) with different vowels and consonants. This lets our software identify a wide spectrum of your voice profile. If third party tries to imitate you speaking a sentence like „My voice is my passport“ or „I love Thomas“ he or she will fail. But if you recorded „blah-blah-blah“, there might not be enough criteria to differentiate you from the person imitating you.
Please quit the program by pressing the round menue button below your iPhone’s screen. If you restart your VOICESAFE again, just pass the device to a friend and ask your friend to open the safe per voice. This is not much fun, as the screen will show „rejected“ shortly after. This shows that you have accomplished your goal: No stranger will be able to tamper with your VOICESAFE. Of course you can also try wether your friend can crack the VOICESAFE if you reveal your passphrase to him. Remember, if you followed our recommendation to train the software using a complex passphrase of about five words, then the voice profile will be sufficient to differentiate you from all others speaking in your iPhone.
VOICESAFE is an application running as a stand-alone software locally on your iPhone. This leads to a security level of 95 per cent. The professional VOICETRUST servers used in online banking, for passwort resets in corporate networks and in call centers, guarantee a security level of 99.9 per cent security. You will find out that 95 per cent is very much, but not considered as „highly secure“ in a professional environment. On the other hand, our iPhone application costs only a few Euros in the pro Version (and there is a free 30-days trial). What is more, the app is several times more secure than for example a piece of paper with your PIN codes, carried along in your vallet.
Only you and nobody else gets access to your most personal information stored in VOICESAFE. Not even a voice imitator can crack the safe! Because of the unique encryption system, your data is protected even in the case that the device is lost or stolen. Forgetting passwords and PIN numbers is much safer than noting them down on a piece of paper! Thanks to VOICESAFE.
Currently the software is merely designed for data storage on your iphone. We decided against synchronizing with a web service due to security reasons. But in one of the next updates we want to offer a CSV import feature that you can use data from a Microsoft Excel table (or from another program that is able to export comma-separated csv-formats).
We have prepared three categories for you: credit cards, logins (for websites or online banking) and others (like combination locks, alarm systems or other secrets). The first fiel is the label which will be shown in the list (the name of the credit card, the URL of a website you need a login for, or the name of another secret information). All the other data is specific for each category. The three categories have a field for notes in common that enables you to note down additional information alongside with PIN numbers and passwords.
To edit information just touch the entry and it opens. Then move the cursor in the data field you want to edit and touch the screen again. A virtual keyboard shows up. You can position the cursor also within a word by moving your finger. The category of an entry (credit card, login, others) cannot be changed afterwards as the data structure is different. Please delete the specific data in such a case and insert a new set of data.
Use the iPhone standard feature „swipe to delete“ in order to erase data, e.g. futile login information. Just position a finger in the right row and move it from right to left. Then you’ll see a red symbol „Delete“. Press the delete button and the data will be erased permanently.
There is no need for Internet connectivity to operate VOICESAFE. What is even more: As certified provider of professional voice biometrics solutions we guarantee that neither your voice profile nor your passwords and PIN numbers will leave the device at any time. Your data will be only stored locally on you iPhone.
Simply train any sentence you like. You should be able to easily remember it. We call this sentence a passphrase, because it contains of a series of passwords that will be needed in a row to unlock your VOICESAFE in future. You will be asked four times to record this passphrase (example: „My voice is my passport.“). Just press the record button, the device will vibrate shortly, and you can start to speak. Please speak at normal speaking volume – and do not whisper. Every recording takes exactly two seconds, starting with the vibration signal. When recording you should make sure that there are no background noises or comments of the people around. After every recording the system analyzes the voice data. After repeating this procedure four times, your VOICESAFE should be ready for use. Anyway, please define a master password – just in case you may want to unlock the VOICESAFE later on by entering a password on the virtual keyboard and not by using your voice.
